Samantha Cambridge thought the day she tore up her business degree and walked away from the life her family had carefully planned out for her, to pursue her passion as a glass artist was the scariest day of her life. Boy, was she wrong. As it happens, the scariest day of her life turned out to be the day she stuck her key in the lock of her struggling flea market shop, intent on opening for business, only to find a mysterious dead guy on the floor. Now, nothing but scary days loom ahead as she—prime suspect #1—her friends, fellow shop owners, and even her Irish Wolfhound, Freeway, get sucked into the fray. With the help of up-and-coming (and deliciously handsome) reporter, Ulysses Molina, Samantha searches for a killer in the crowd. Will she find the murderer or will hers be the next body found at the flea market.

Let me start by stating, this book needs to be the beginning of a series! I love Samantha. She is the kind of person I would make a friend in a flat second!Samantha has decided to do her own thing and take a huge chance by leaving her life of security to pursue her art. I loved this about her because she was her own person and she wanted to do it her way. I will talk about the book, but like with all my other reviews, I won't give away any spoilers. And this really sucks because all I want to do is go into detail because I loved it so much, but then, why would you get the book then?
Samantha has a rough morning and stumbles, quite literally, over a body in her glass shop. I honestly don't think I have ever been more hooked by a group of friends in a book like I was with Samantha, Carol, & Heidi. They way they interact with each other is both hilarious and sweet. There is no shortage of intrigue and mystery in this story. Enter Ulysses. I was pretty much smitten at first read. He is incredibly patient with this group and you can totally see why Samantha is crazy about him.
Did I mention Freeway, her dog? No. Well he is the most awesome dog ever. No really.
There are some wicked fun twists and turns and you won't even know what hit you when you get the outcome. I was taken aback for sure!
The writing style is super descriptive and easy to keep up with. The pacing of the book is incredibly well done. I have read a lot of books where the pacing is off and you just can't keep interested. This was a book that when I was interrupted during reading, because life does that sometimes, I would find myself getting really irritated. I was actually super sick when I first stared this book and it made me forget how ill I was!
You might be surprised to know that the author is actually male and not Carlie Lamont, although that is a cool pen name! It is Chuck Lemoine, and dude has a great insight into a woman's mind =)
This is easily a 5 star for me! I absolutely recommend you read it. I loved it so much, that I bought the physical and kindle editions.

Murder At a Discount Carlie Lemont 9781544994390 Books Reviews
This is a wonderful book!! Murder At a Discount has everything; humor, romance, suspense. It is lighthearted but with feeling and has you on the edge of your seat while laughing out loud at it's humor. I loved the story and could not put the book down. I don't think I have read through a book so fast in a long time. I was sad when I finished it! I can't wait for another book!
Fabulous suspense...and of course being Vegan Sammy was the best and being the animal lover I am Freeway took my heart..looking forward to more Amazing writing from the Author..( but using his given name finally) xo
I wasn’t sure about this book at first because I usually don’t read murder mystery books. I have to say this book was amazing, I read it in a week !!
The characters, the story line from the beginning to the end all good. I hope there’s a sequel or something with these characters I really enjoyed it. I will have to keep my eyes open for more from this author.
Murder at a Discount is an interesting spin on a cozy/traditional murder mystery. Samantha Cambridge is a glass artist and shop owner in Mesa, Arizona. She finds a dead body in her shop one morning. The rest is a great mystery that works. It does have a few grammar errors, but still a decent read. Samantha and Ulysses (the male lead/love interest) have great chemistry and I have an Annie Lawrence/Max Darinv (form Carolyn Harts's Death on Demanx) vibe from them
Murder, glass-making, sociopaths, and the Cactus Swap Meet in sunny Mesa, AZ - this book has it all. Add in a stellar cast of characters including Samantha, Heidi, Carol, a dog named Freeway, and a sexy, scrumptious reporter named Ulysses and it gets that much better! We start the book with just Samantha, at the Cactus Market – the local hive for elderly snowbirds and visitors looking for a “must do” activity. Samantha has come in early to get her booth, The Glass House, ready when she literally stumbles over a dead body. She is soon joined by her ever-bickering best friends, Heidi and Carol, who have their own theories about the dead man in Samantha’s booth. It’s not long before Ulysses joins them and some interesting events begin to happen (no spoilers!).
I enjoyed this book from the start and mostly because I love the characters in it! Samantha, who’s trying to prove that she made the right choice by striking out on her own, works to get her business and her life back on track. Heidi with her quirky sense of fashion and never-ending optimism, plus her spontaneous personality is a joy while Carol with her all-knowing, take charge mentality plays the realist. Ulysses has this patient, confident, quiet way about him. And Freeway, well he just doesn’t seem to know that he’s a dog, let along an Irish Wolfhound. They're very well-rounded characters and are fun to read about. The supporting characters are also well-rounded and just as delightful.
The setting for this story takes place in a real place, Mesa, a suburb east of Phoenix, which is home to the hero and heroines. I personally enjoyed the detail that Ms. Lemont put in her book regarding the Cactus Swap Meet and the hustle and bustle that occurs in a long covered breezeway full of friendly merchants, an enormous variety of items, and throngs of visitors. It helped me visualize what it was like for Samantha and her friends to get from point A to point B with very little knowledge of the layout. I loved the detailed descriptions of working with glass and creating glass art pieces.
I began to suspect the villain(s) and what was going on towards the middle of the book, but I was not expecting what was being “sold”. That was a plot twist I didn’t see coming at all.
I hope Ms. Lamont writes another boos. I miss Samantha, Ulysses, Heidi, Carol, Freeway, and all the predicaments they get into!
If you haven't read the book, I encourage you to get it. It’s a fast and lighthearted read, even if someone is murdered.
